He/Him
I am gay and I am a chemistry professor and assistant dean of the School of Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.//
I am a gay inorganic chemistry professor (now administrator-please don’t judge 🙂 ) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I’ve had phenomenal experiences with all my chemistry teachers, professors, and mentors, and I want to impart a similar experience to my students.
I trained as a synthetic inorganic chemist and computational chemist. My research interests lie primarily in using natural bond orbital theory methods in studying oxidation states at transition metal centers.
I lived much of my life enjoying passing privilege as a white cis-het male, but I struggled with not being my authentic self. I came out in 2017–well past major career steps that might have been impacted by being a gay man. I’ll never know that, but my experience has given me a new outlook and drive to help people know they can be who they want to be in any career they choose (especially chemistry!).
I’ve become more attuned to EDI initiatives, and seek out opportunities at UWSP to better the campus environment for everyone.
