She/Her
I am queer and I am a climate and marine scientist and educator.//
I work for a small, women-led nonprofit focused on empowering diverse communities to engage in marine protected area stewardship.
For most of my young adulthood, my struggle with my repressed sexual identity was one of my greatest challenges. I felt isolated and disconnected from my true self as I tried to fit into the societal molds I was given. Then I found the ocean. During my senior year in college, I began submerging in the ocean every day, and the connection I felt in the water set me on a trajectory of healing and ultimately led me to the work I do today.
Today, I work for ocean justice as a climate specialist and tribal liaison for an organization focused on bringing diverse voices into ocean management. Previously I have worked as a mentor to aspiring young environmental leaders, an environmental educator, and on implementing climate adaptation projects.
Although I have a master’s in climate scientist, I am not a field researcher and still don’t fully identify as a “scientist” because I still don’t fully see myself fitting into that term. I am excited to be a part of 500queerscientists and continuing to expand the definition of what a “scientist” really is.
My passions include gardening, long-distance backpacking, meditating, cooking with my partner, and getting as cozy as humanly possible with a book.
I’m not on social media, so please go to my staff page linked below for my email if you’d like to reach out!
