He/Him
I am gay and I am a PhD student in polar marine biology.//
My research focuses on quantifying the scale of microplastic pollution in Antarctic marine ecosystems, specifically, at the time, around South Georgia. I have been involved with plastics-related research throughout my undergrad and masters but am interested in any research which mitigates the negative impacts of anthropogenic activities upon the marine world. Until starting my PhD I had never met/known an LGBTQ+ person in STEM, but I can imagine how different my undergrad experience would have been with just a role model from our community. I would love to be such a role model for future/other aspiring LGBTQ+ scientists and part of the sea change towards acceptance and visibility in STEM. Platforms like this are a great idea- go 500QS!
