They/Them
I am genderqueer and I am a geologist.//
I am a PhD researcher at the School of Earth Sciences in Bristol, UK, researching the link between plate tectonics and the formation of copper deposits in the Nevada-Utah area, USA. My natural habitats include somewhere on the side of a mountain (collecting rocks), the rock saw (cutting rocks), and the mass-spectrometry lab (firing lasers at rocks to find out how old they are). I can also be found enthusing young people about the wonders of science and the natural world, and engaging in the ethical debates surrounding mining.
What I love about geology is the way it allows me to connect with the world around me: understanding the landscapes and their stories helps me feel integrated as part of our planet.
When I’m not telling stories about the evolution of mountains, I am probably either telling silly stories with my improvised comedy group, walking with my partner, or singing in my church choir.
