I am a lesbian and I am a protein engineer.//
CRISPR has taken the world, and me, by storm. The power of genome editing is undeniable and the first time I heard about it, my initial reaction was “I have to get involved.” At the time, I was doing Plant Microbiome research but was taking a class with Jennifer Doudna at UC Berkeley. As soon as I could, I began doing molecular engineering on CRISPR proteins and RNA with a graduate student in her lab. Fast forward 3 years and I now work at an incredible company called Scribe Therapeutics founded by that very same graduate student. The world of STEM, CRISPR, and Protein Engineering is awesome and I look forward to seeing more Queer scientists in my field!
