Hannah S. Rempel

She/Her

I am bisexual and I am a marine ecologist.//

I’m currently a PhD student at University of Texas at Austin, where my work focuses on the trophic ecology of herbivorous and detritivorous coral reef fishes that play critical roles in grazing algae and cyanobacteria–keeping it in check from overgrowing corals. More broadly, I’m interested in how species interactions shape ecosystems and how species ecosystem and fisheries roles may change in response to human impacts. In my research, I integrate field-based surveys with lab-based molecular and isotopic techniques to gain a more holistic understanding of both the functional and nutritional roles of organisms.

I also love using scientific illustration as a way to share the beauty of diverse organisms and the world around us.
