He/Him
I am gay and I am a geneticist.//
I am a marketing manager at Illumina and my role is to develop the oncology market and drive the adoption of genomics in Asia, leveraging my background in cancer genomics. I have a BA in Biology from the University of Chicago and a PhD in Genetics from Yale University, where my research focused identifying driver mutations in a variety of cancers using next-generation sequencing.
I think 500QS is a great initiative as I strongly believe visibility plays a key role in building acceptance. I previously took part in a project “Out in Singapore” (https://www.facebook.com/outinsingapore/), which was an exhibition showcasing portraits of LGBTQ+ Singaporeans to celebrate the local queer community and help the general public put a face to our community. I am fortunate to work for a company that values inclusion and diversity, although there is still a fair amount of work that needs to be done to increase support of LGBTQ+ employees in the region. I love connecting with fellow queer scientists, so please do find me on Twitter.
