They/Them

I am trans genderqueer and I am an assistant professor.//

I am Dr. Fernando Salinas-Quiroz, Ph.D. (they/elle/elu), an Assistant Professor in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University. As a trans, nonbinary, neuroqueer, femme, and racialized Mexican immigrant, my lived experiences shape my work in psychology, education, and transgender studies. My research challenges traditional developmental theories by focusing on the fluid nature of gender identity and expression, ensuring life-sustaining resources are accessible to all, regardless of institutional legibility.

I lead the ‘Abby and Anna’ Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Lab at Tufts and serve as Associate Director of the SOGIE Health Equity Research Collaborative at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. I also hold roles as a Board Member and Director of Research at Trans formative Schools (TfS) in NYC and am recognized as a National Researcher in Mexico.

My academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Psychology from UNAM, where I received the “Alfonso Caso Medal” and “Silvia Macotela” Prize. I have authored 51 peer-reviewed articles, five books, and 12 book chapters and presented my work internationally. Beyond academia, I enjoy practicing Ashtanga yoga, dancing, and spreading kindness. My life and work are dedicated to transforming systems and celebrating human complexity.
