I am gay and I am a doctor in molecular ecology. //

I am a gay Chilean scientist working on the role of microorganisms in structuring plant ecosystems. Did my PhD in Australia, and now conducting a postdoc in Oregon, USA. The stigma of “gay people never achieving anything” really resonated with me when I was young. Because of this, I made it my life goal to prove everyone wrong. So I guess even though the stigma is a horrible thing, it did motivate me to become a successful scientist. I am also engaged to my partner who is a geologist in a gold mine.
