Emily Nordmann

She/Her

I am lesbian and I am a cognitive psychologist.//

I am a Professor of of Evidence-Informed Education and Associate Dean of Learning & Teaching in the College of Medicine, Veterinary, and Life Sciences. My career has been shaped by a commitment to open science, inclusive teaching, and the creation of supportive academic communities. I specialise in teaching data skills and open research practices, with a particular focus on helping students and colleagues build confidence in R and reproducible workflows. I believe that transparency in research and education is essential for equity, and I work to make complex methods accessible to all learners.
My promotion to Professor was grounded in pedagogical leadership and sector engagement, and I continue to advocate for learning and teaching as a valued academic pathway. One of the initiatives of which I am most proud is Rainbow Office Hours, a cross-College scheme that invites students to meet visible LGBTQ+ staff in a safe and informal space. The project is based on the principle that representation should be ordinary rather than exceptional, and that the simple act of being visible can foster belonging and aspiration for queer students who may not see themselves reflected in their disciplines.
