I am gay and I am a phytopathologist.//
I am an assistant professor in the Department of plant sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of Université Laval. Following undergraduate studies in biochemistry at the University of Havana in Cuba, and doctoral studies in ecology and biotechnology, at University Veracruzana in Mexico, I did further postdoctoral studies at Auburn University in the United States and at the University of Saskatchewan. I am a plant pathologist with more than 10 years of experience working with devastating plant diseases. In 2020, I started establishing a research program at Université Laval focused on understanding the biology of the club root pathogen, Plasmodiophora brassicae, affecting cruciferous crops in Canada and worldwide through genomics and other molecular approaches.
