I am a transwoman and I am a high school physics and science teacher and an astronomer.//

 

As a transgender woman in STEAM secondary public education, it is important for me to be visible. Growing up, I did not have the language to describe how I felt; there were no role models or example. Even today, trans women in secondary education are often the unicorns.

That I can share my love of physics, science, math and particularly astronomy with my students is why I chose to teach as a second career after retiring. That I am LGBTQ+ is secondary to that, but oh so important that everyone is welcome in STEAM!
