I am bi and I am a chemical engineer.//
My STEM story is that I grew up in rural Texas where the only STEM career for little girls was to be either a nurse or a teacher. My mom was a nurse and I knew I hated blood and anything to do with the human body so I landed on math teacher. When I got to high school I had this badass, smart as hell chemistry teacher and she made me fall in love with chemistry. I’m also a first generation Mexican-American so I knew I wanted a better life than the one I grew up with hence finding chemical engineering. I studied in Texas for 5 years and now work for a big tech company in upstate New York with my long term girlfriend. I came out as queer my senior year and college and it was the greatest feeling in the world. I hope I can inspire many other young queer kids into the STEM field and help my community in any way I can!
