I am gay and I am a conservation biologist.//
I am a Ph.D. candidate at The Open University studying urban butterfly conservation and woodland habitat connectivity on a landscape scale. I have a great passion for butterflies and moths and love every aspect of learning about them and working to conserve them. Much of my study is concerned with their actual habitat and how it needs to be suitably managed as well as their biology and ecology.
I used the 2021 lockdown(s) to my advantage and the benefit of others by supporting the education of secondary school students online via the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) to aid students with their general science studies due to the impact of restrictions. I have a strong passion for inclusive education and wish to lecture at university once I have my Ph.D.
I am a huge LGBTQ+ rights advocate, including trans people who need all the support they can get in the UK. I want to show my support, lend my voice, and tell my own story of the challenges I’ve faced due to my own sexuality, and the impacts on my mental health, as much as possible to drive for more LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality in STEM.
