Angelico Obille

He/They

gay and genderfluid and I am a biomaterials scientist.//

I apply perspectives from materials science and chemistry to reverse-engineer biological materials. My PhD work (at the University of Toronto Institute of Biomedical Engineering) is on 'sticky science'; I study the bioadhesive proteins found in the zebra and quagga mussels. My work contributes to the broader goal of developing bio-inspired wet adhesive materials, such as improved medical adhesives.

I'm also known as the fabulous drag queen named 'Kwaga Musselle'. I work with the world's first science-themed drag show, 'Science is a Drag', to promote inclusive science communication. As Kwaga Musselle, I share the message that "nature is the world's best engineer" and that some of the best engineering marvels were developed over millions of years of optimization experiments throughout the history of life!
