Sophie May Watts
I am pansexual/bisexual and I am a PhD student in biology.//
I completed a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Wildlife Management and Conservation in the UK. In 2018, received a fellowship from Panthera and studied snow leopards in India for five months. I have now relocated to Canada (from the UK) to complete a PhD at the University of British Columbia. My PhD research is on the ecology of coastal wolves on Vancouver Island and the subsequent human-wolf interactions. Specifically, I will look at how the wolves use the landscape of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and what they are eating. I hope to understand why some wolves have become habituated (lost their fear of people) and come up with solutions to this problem. I strive to be more open about myself and help represent LGBTQ+ in STEM.
