He/Him

I am queer and I am a marine biologist studying coral biology. //

I’m a science storyteller and PhD candidate in marine biology at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology/UH Mānoa, where I use tools like molecular techniques and 3D-imaging to study what will happen to corals under future climate conditions (and what we can do to help them survive!). I have Midwestern roots, completed my undergrad in environmental studies and feminist studies at UC Santa Cruz, and then my MSc in evolutionary biology at the California Academy of Sciences/San Francisco State University. When not in the lab, I’m an avid science communicator and advocate for diversity in STEM. My newest project, “exactly the same atoms,” aims to be an online resource to help STEM faculty better support their trans grad students. Want to contribute your thoughts? See the link below.
