He/Him
I am gay and I am an associate professor (reader) in microbiology. //
I have a major, visible disability as well as being gay. I started doing a four-year M.Sci Chemistry but quit after two years as the department was closing. Read three-year B.Sc Biochemistry where owing to my two years of Chemistry I had timetable gaps they let me fill with research, and my first paper was out whilst I was an undergrad. I then did a PhD in microbiology at the University of Warwick then 2.5 years of postdoc at the same. I became a PI in 2012 and set up my own laboratory at the University of Plymouth (UK). In 2014, I became Editor-in-Chief of FEMS Microbiol Lett. In 2017, I was promoted from Lecturer to Reader, and also became Head of my Division of the School, line managing 30 or so academics plus my group as well, and I am an Associate Head of my School. From 2014-2017 I lead Recruitment and Marketing for my Faculty (4 Schools).
