Representation matters, which is why we are sharing our science family story. We (Beth and Kim) met in graduate school, went to sea, got married, went to sea some more, earned two PhDs, had two kids, and have managed to do all the things you need to do to have dual careers in science. Kim is a senior oceanographer at Sea-Bird Scientific. Her passions are ocean instrumentation, data, and science communication served with a side of humor. Beth is a researcher at the Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington. Her passion ranges from Arctic circulation to interdisciplinary research in Puget Sound. Both kids are uncannily literate in science.
