I am gay and I am a professor in animal behaviour. //
I was born in a tiny, conservative, orange-grove town in central Florida and dreamed my whole life of moving away, becoming a professor, studying animals in the wild, and living in a thriving city. I left high school early to start college and worked my way from community college, to various state schools (USF, UT Knoxville), and eventually to a variety of professorships (University of Pittsburgh, UC Santa Barbara). I now hold a federally endowed research chair position at McMaster University in Toronto Metro.
