I am gay and I am a PhD student in microbiology and immunology.//
Science allows us to see and understand more of the natural world than meets the eye. This is why I love it. My field of interest is infectious diseases and how the human immune system protects us or doesn’t. My background is in microbiology, studying stress responses in bacteria. Currently, I study Lyme disease and how this infection can affect the immune system and result in autoimmunity or uncontrolled immune responses. I aim to further understand the battle and the balance that occurs between the immune system and microorganisms. I am an aspiring professor and I hope to make a significant impact on the next generation of students, and the LGBTQIA+ community, through effective communication and education.
