I am asexual and I am an evolutionary biologist.//

Hello hello! I am an asexual aromantic biologist studying marine invertebrate evolution. My research strives to understand how complex features originate and diversify, with a particular focus on sea slug evolution. I am currently a postdoctoral scholar at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego), where I am working to better understand the cell and molecular mechanisms that underlie a very interesting complex phenotype called nematocyst sequestration (the theft and storage of defensive organelles from prey). I also very much enjoy participating in science outreach events with the public, which for me have ranged from showing pictures of sea slugs to folks that visited the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History to making speakers and learning about sound with local middle school students. Science communication is so crucial to community understanding and appreciation.

Outside of my work, I have a lot of interests, including cycling, baking, SCUBA diving, and spending time with my chihuahua. But I’m always on the lookout for something new!
