They/Them
I am queer and nonbinary and I am a biochemist. //
I’m a queer, disabled Latinx, the kid of a homemaker and a contractor from the deep South. I didn’t grow up surrounded by scientists or professors, like many of my peers in grad school. I did have an amazing high-school chemistry teacher who showed me that understanding molecules was a way to make sense of at least some aspects of the Universe. These days I’m working on my PhD and raising a fair amount of rabble to make the academy a less terrible place for marginalized people. My dream is to see science become a field that is cognizant of its role and responsibility in society as a whole, and for it to become truly democratized and accessible to anyone with the curiosity and drive to wonder why things work the way they do.
