He/Him

I am gay and I am a polar marine biologist.//

Growing up on the coast in west Wales I spent most of my childhood playing on the beach and exploring the rock pools. Now I’m an adult I pretty much do the same thing but I live miles from the sea and explore everything from rock pools to the deep sea at the ends of the Earth. I’m a marine biologist studying seafloor biodiversity in the oceans of the Polar Regions. I have been visiting Antarctica and the Arctic on fieldwork since 2006 and have been chief scientist on three expeditions with British Antarctic Survey. I also study the potential effects of marine protected areas, climate change, and plastic pollution on these unique ecosystems. I am a passionate believer in science communication and making science more accessible to the public and policy makers.
