I am gay and I am a herpetologist.//
I am an assistant professor of biology at Jacksonville State University, a small state school nestled in the mountains of Alabama, which I assure you, exist. I have been exceedingly lucky to (more or less) know what I’ve wanted to do since age 4, and that is to study turtles. My research has focused on the ecology, natural history and evolutionary history of turtles in the Southeastern United States (where I grew up), but I am eager to expand my research interests in my new position.
Outside of academia, I enjoy training for marathons, going to trivia, and spending time with my family (particularly my new little niece). I also serve on a steering committee to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in the field of herpetology. But mostly I’m out looking for turtles…
