I am gay and I am a science-policy advocate. //
I’m Executive Director of Future of Research, a nonprofit that wants to champion, engage, and empower early-career scientists with evidence-based resources to improve the scientific research endeavor. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, I lived and studied in Scotland and England before moving to the U.S. to do postdoctoral research using frogs to study embryo development. While carrying out bench research, I became interested in studying the scientific system itself, and after getting involved with grassroots advocacy efforts, moved permanently into studying science and trying to effect changes, with a particular focus on helping early-career researchers. I’ve been involved in academic LGBTQ advocacy since I was a student.
