He/Him
I am gay and I am a graduate student.//
Hello! My name is Cole, and I am a graduate student at the University of Vermont. I am currently researching cell signaling and metabolism in thyroid cancer. My passion lies in education. After graduating I plan to pursue a faculty position at a primarily undergrad institution to teach cell and molecular biology. I grew up in a small town in the Ozarks experiencing the typical rural midwestern closeted life in high school. I met my first LGBT role models while studying biology at Truman State University. I still remember how shocked I was to hear a professor refer to his husband in class. For the first time, I saw that a gay individual such as myself could be successful, happy, respected, and married without fear of judgment. I immediately understood the value of LGBT representation and have since then strived to one day be a role model for future college students. I am happily living with my partner, Justin, and our cat, Caboose in Vermont. When not in the lab or the classroom, I enjoy swimming, video games, and catching up on RuPaul’s Drag Race with my friends every Friday.
