He/Him

I am gay and I am a research entomologist.//

I have a BS degree in Biology, and both MS and Doctorate degrees in Entomology. I’m a former postdoc from UCDavis and Oregon State University. Since 2018 I hold a permanent position as a Research Entomologist at Embrapa (Brazil). My research focuses on biological control of pests, and chemical and behavioral ecology of insects. I love learning about animal behavior, especially insects.

I’ve been out of the closet as a gay man since my mid 20s (I’m in my late 30s now). I grew up in a very conservative and repressive family/community, so it was a long journey for me until I felt able to truly accept and embrace myself as a gay man. Being outed made me feel much better with myself, but it also made a target to homophobic people, especially in my work/study environment. But I have no regrets.

I seek to actively engage in LGBTQIA+ -friendly projects and I do my best to create a safe environment for my students and collaborators.
