I am queer and I am a PhD student in microbiology.//
Hi! I am PhD student studying microbiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Microbial pathogenesis interests me because only about 5% of bacteria species are pathogenic, yet they pose a significant threat to our society. I am investigating the versatile human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. Specifically, I am uncovering how S. aureus regulates homeostasis and acquisition of the essential nutrient inorganic phosphate (Pi).
I am passionate about science communication and outreach. I am fortunate to serve on our Graduate Student Association (the MCBees) and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Through these roles, I actively engage in science communication with our local community. If you are an early career scientist, get involved and try on some different hats! There’s more to science than just pipetting!
I am happiest when lifting weights in the gym with my partner, cooking new recipes, or cuddling our three purfect kitties Azula, Mikasa, and Sushi.
