He/Him
I am gay and I am a materials scientist and engineer.//
I am a PhD student at UC Santa Barbara doing research in Materials Science with a focus on optoelectronic materials. My research focuses on creating high power and energy efficient light emitting devices like laser diodes for display and communication applications. I received my BS in Chemical Engineering, and MS in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Before coming back to school fulltime I worked in Industry for seven years. My interest in semiconductors and passion interdisciplinary engineering has allowed me to explore novel materials and how they can be utilized for a wide array of applications.
I am equally passionate about outreach opportunities through my university at local elementary, middle, and high schools. Growing up I wish I had seen others who looked like me in STEM because a lot of the time I never felt like I fit in both at school and my career. As a first-generation college graduate and child of immigrants I would like younger students feel like STEM is accessible to them.
Outside of the lab I like to race in marathons and triathlons, make ice cream, and enjoy the ocean and mountains here on the California coast.
