I am bi and I am a biologist. //
Being a scientist means allowing the world to surprise you. I suppose this is why nearly the entire research community responds positively when I tell someone I’m bisexual. I’ve known I was bi much longer than I’ve been a scientist, but many friends and family tell me they thought it was the other way around. Certainly, it can be difficult, with “bi erasure” in our culture, to understand this orientation. Nevertheless, I am thankful for a supportive professional community.
